Thought I'd show you a pic of new forum member Archie's XS650 Yamaha chop project.
Cool huh.  Cool
It'll be on show on our pitch at the Basingstoke Transport Festival this Sunday.
Welcome aboard young Archie.  Wink

Suprisingly, Archie also happens to be a dab hand in the kitchen. He's promised to fill Tom's pick-up truck with chocolate chip muffins on Sunday. Probably.   Smiley

Archie's XS

was a free frame, but scabby hardtail which didn't fit the back wheel anyway, so it went and got re hardtailed to what it is now.Check the photos below for progress? Can't really call it that.

Headlight on and made up a sidemount today, so rear lights on too, with numberplate so people can trip over it in the workshop

Side mount number plate bracket made & tried in place. Might need beefing up a bit or bracing in some way. The rear light's a reproduction Vincent one.

The MSVA manual actually says that if a side mount plate is fitted there should be space for a duplicate plate on the other side of the vehicle to comply with visibility requirements, (you're supposed to be able to see the plate & rear lights from up to 45 degrees from either side of the back of the vehicle).
Plenty of people fit them though & I've never heard of anyone having problems. They do usually end up on the left.
Biggest problem I've found is that they catch the wind like a sail. My last one was made of 3 or 4mm steel plate & kept cracking it's mounting tabs. In the end I had to brace it with a short strut off the frame. You can buy some nice American made ones that are curved from top to bottom to follow the curve of the wheel & mount to the wheel spindle. Ground clearance when cornering might be an issue though, but there aren't any corners in the States!
