No idea why, but I just like vintage tractors & the greys are my favourites. You can buy a decent condition one for about 2 grand. Great fun around the lanes where we live, but can't see me commuting to work down the M3 on one somehow.

Don't know why, but I just can't get motivated to get anything done on our various projects at the moment, which is annoying cos there's so much to do. I've had most of the weekend to myself so should've ploughed on with the 2 trikes, but failed miserably.
It's been pouring down here all day -finally got into the shed & spent an hour or so being dripped on from the leaky roof while I cleaned up the heated manifold for Taz's trike. I've hacksawed, (hacksawn?), the inlet & outlet pipes off the back of it, then filed the remainder off before cleaning it up with some wet n dry. So now it's a nice slimline S bend sort of shape.

Well the rain's finally stopped so that's that excuse gone. Still not getting anywhere with either Taz's or my trikes though. Neither has really moved on much in the last year. We just seem to be so busy all the time, that when we finally get some free time, I'm too knackered to think about getting in the shed.
Taz & I were at the Dorking Harley swapmeet in Surrey on Sunday morning. I wasn't really looking for anything, but still picked up another carb bellmouth. The previous one's chromed pressed tin. This one's huge & much beefier, in thick, cast aluminium. A bargain for 10 quid. Obviously it's intended for a Harley & sweeps round through 90 degrees.
I half thought of fitting it on my own trike, but it suits Taz's more heavy duty machine much better. So I'll use her previous bellmouth on my trike & fit this one to hers. I'll need to make an adaptor plate to convert from the 3 bolt bellmouth fitting to the 2 bolt SU carb though.

This evein' oi 'ave mostly bin...
making the adaptor plate to fit Taz's new bellmouth to her SU carb.
Started with an offcut of 6mm steel plate, blagged from Lunatic -who blagged it from Doug.
I used a large hole saw in a hand drill to cut the centre hole out. The slot is to feed air to the choke jet. Then I drilled & tapped 2 M8 mounting holes & cut down a couple of M8 bolts to create short studs, screwed them in, so the ends were below the surface of the plate, then filled the holes with weld & flushed them off with a soft pad on the angle grinder.
That gave me a pair of M8 studs on one side of the plate. I drilled the Imperial mounting holes on the carb out to 8mm so the studs would pass through, & secured them with a couple of dome nuts & spring washers.

With the plate secured to the carb, I just needed to fix the bellmouth to the plate.
That's why I used 6mm steel. I drilled the 3 bellmouth mounting holes & tapped them to M6. Some short M6 allen bolts & the whatsit's fitted to the thingumy.
