Although I want to keep the bars low, they also need to clear the carb on full lock. I have to raise the tank by about half an inch to clear the carb float bowl, (it's still tack welded to the frame just for the duration of last year's Basingstoke transport show!). I might do that by slicing a length of the 1 1/2" bore ERW I used for the top tube down it's length & welding it in along the top of the existing toob, to create an oval top tube.

After much faffing about with the saddle last year, trying to make it slot onto the end of the top tube using the mounting tab that came on the saddle, I've decided to start again. Hopefully I can fix some new mounting studs to the underside, though that might mean removing the cover then getting it re-fitted.

Mr Gazz's contribution arrived in the post this morning Thanks mate. Also got a bag of stainless exhaust springs for my trike pipe. I had some already but they got used on other stuff, so I had to replace them.

Spent the evening in the shed messing about with Taz's trike. I've hardly touched it since last year's Basingstoke transport show, when we ended up working on it till 2 in the morning the night before the show. Lots of stuff left half done or temporarily tacked together. I've got 5 days to get as much done as I can on my Pop, my trike & Taz's trike -more late nights in the shed I think. I want to make up the handlebars but can't yet cos the tank needs to be raised, cos the carb fouls on it.

There's a lesson here kids- plan ahead! I should've made the top tube a little taller, so the float bowl would tuck under the edge of the tank.

So now it needs to be raised by about half an inch. Yeah, I know the welds are messy. I'll sort them.

A couple of alternatives- notch the side of the tank to clear the carb. I've done that before & it's a bugger to get fuel tight welds on such paper thin steel. I've tried tank sealant & had mixed results. Lower the engine mounts. That'd mean the motor would sit nose down in the frame, unless I also lowered the gearbox tabs -which would mean the prop would run downhill. Raise the tank. Easiest to do but still a pain. So I went with that. I filled the shed with grinding dust by slicing a short piece of 1 1/2" bore ERW down it's length to produce a wedge.
