Next I tried the h-u-g-e girder forks in place. Specially made for us by Mr FLC in Rotherham, to take a Yamaha V Max rear wheel.

Looking good so far, although there's a huge amount of space around the back of the engine due to the long top tube.

Then things went a bit pear shaped.
I balanced the QuickBob tank in place, plus the tractor seat we obtained from Mr Twisted Patience.
Yuck. Suddenly it all looks very, very wrong. All out of proportion. I'd planned to site the seat tight up against the end of the top tube, but that made sitting in it quite tight. It needed to move back a couple of inches. But that made reaching for the bars a real stretch -& Taz is shorter in the arm than me.
The tank just looks -wrong. It's just perched up on top of the frame tube. Even if I cut a big section out of the back & re-welded it to drop the back lower, I think it'd still look wrong.

I tried the 883 Harley Sportster tank we originally bought for Taz from Ebay & the fibreglass seat pan we bought from Madron.
Better but still wrong.

I think it's that extra long top tube that's buggering it all up.
I'll let Taz have a look tomorrow, but personally I think we need to start again. Keep the bottom run of the frame, but cut off the whole top section & re-do it. Go back to the dimensions of my frame. A shorter top tube with as much angle on it as we can get away with, & longer top hardtail tubes. Then flog both the tanks we've got, (both brand new, never used), & buy a King Sportster. That'd give us a bit more width so it wouldn't look out of proportion with the wide forks, but would be considerably shorter than the QuickBob, so Taz could sit closer to the bars. Then fit the same large solo seat I've used on mine.
So basically we'd end up with the same proportions & style as mine, but with big fat rear tyres & a matching wide front end.

Still leaves us with the problem of too much distance between seat & bars. Taz likes her big QuickBob tank, but it just doesn't look right. Think I need to take another look at Flap's orange one. If I remember right we cut a large chunk out of the back of the tank & rewelded it. He had a lot of problems getting it petrol proof again afterwards though. His top tube is also shorter, with the bend at the back beginning further forward, so the tube drops away level with the back of the tank.

Can you not angle the top tube slightly downward to allow the tank to slope more?
