And I thought Desperate was barking! Love the jet powered scooter though.  Grin

So you never saw the Jet/V8 trike I built the chassis for some years ago? Exactly the same setup, and just like the trike, all the jet engine does is to throw a huge flame out the back.

Was that the black one that's been doing the rounds of the shows for the last couple of years? It was at The Speedfreak's Ball at The Pod I think.
Did you ever host NCC parties at Leighton Buzzard Chris? I went to one once. Seem to recall a field full of all sorts of wondrous contraptions just rusting away. I'm sure there was a jet engine there. Long time ago & the ol' memory's getting a bit fuzzy! Tongue

It's actually an APU (Auxilliary Power Unit). Normally found just below the tail on big airliners, these engines have several power-takeoffs for electric, hydraulics, compressed air etc. They don't actually produce thrust. Owned a couple myself. Just sound nice, and when you pump raw fuel into the jet-pipe, produce pretty flames and smoke.

Grin Perfect for Sainsburys carpark on a Saturday afternoon! Where does one buy a second hand APU then?

Yes, it is Paul's black one. And the party you went to was at my place,  Harley Farm, where I lived. The back of the barn had a concealed "house" behind it. The engine you saw was my DeHavilland Ghost, a proper jet engine out of a Venom fighter and producing 10,000bhp. Hey....they were good parties. I held quite a few!

So it wasn't just my imagination then!
I have enough trouble sorting out 40bhp Reliant engines! Would love to have one in the corner of the lock-up though, just to casually show to people as "my next project".   Cheesy

I remember seeing an article on a Trike with a Rolls Royce Merlin engine! Taken from a Spitfire. 35ltr and about 3000 hp I think. Shocked

The MSVA guys would have a field day with that!
Wasn't there a Merlin engined car years ago too? Owned by a guy called Dodd  I think -no, not Ken. It was a creamy yellow colour & had a bonnet about 10 feet long.

Yeah. I think it started life as a Capri. As if the bonnet isn't long enough anyway!  Cheesy

They your piccies Byz? I've been asking for ages for people to send in old drag race shots. I used to take loads on my little Kodak110 when I was a teenager. Used to go to the Blackbushe airport meets at Camberley. The Olympia & Ally Pally custom car shows too. All of 'em long since binned though.
Steve's race car, The Black Pig, was originally Pony Express I believe. Must be loads of photos of that in action tucked away in people's albums.

I've lost all my old photo's. Gutted. I have a couple of pics of my Mum and Dad on an Ariel Arrow in their courting days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
