The show was based on a 1965 film called Clarence the cross eyed lion, which starred Marshall Thompson as Dr. Marsh Tracy -the same character he played in Daktari, so no type casting there then. 
Daktari's a Swahili word for "as"  -?

It were greaaaaat in ole days,we had real ovis n buta for tay!!

 hanz striegeir   aka= clark mellor   only remember him because i used to look after his cars ,, he always ran old 1950,s/60,s merc,s  mostly on parrafin  tight with his cash,,    but just about the only customer that gave me a tip in those days  Grin Grin
