No substitute for cubic inches they say, but were camper vans fitted with the same 440 motor prized by the Mopar mob, or some lumbering de-tuned version of it, or even a different 440 motor altogether?

I was just saying to Manky that I thought it was 7.2 as I was sure that is what Dave2lanes said his was. The 383 that I have in bits is supposed to be a 6.3

I've been speeking to Dave2lanes this morning about the engine and we know it's probably going to cost £500 + to re-build my 383 engine so if I can get this for around that mark it will be worth it. I'm going to put a bid on bit if I loose it's not the end of the world as it's going to be months befor the Charger is anyway near ready to put an engine in it and another may come along. If not then it's re-build time.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner! Many of the 440 motorhome engines were basically the same as a 440 truck engine. Fine for a road car, tuned more towards torque than smokin' hot horsepower but plenty strong! Seller should be able to say if there's any difference in water pump plumbing, which may have only been done on some 413's.

As I don't intend on taking it up the drag strip in a hurry what ever way I look at it it's still ba bigger engine than the one I have and this one works which mine doesn't so will give it a go.

Put a max of 600 and there is another bidder who has more money than me. Not going any higher as I can't afford too.

it went for 601 but for me to put a next bid in I would have had to put in 621. There has to be a limit and I stuck to mine otherwise where does it end?

I thought you wouldnt want to put another motor in it as its a matching numbers car? Unless its a temporary thing. I would spend the money on the machining on the original motor, but thats me talking sense, and faced with a 7 plus litre lump in front of me I would find it hard to resist! Grin
Ill have to pop over soon and poke the car with a screwdriver and suck air through my teeth! Cheesy

Marcus It's not a matching numbers car. Not sure why you thought it was. So doesn't really matter what I do with it. My Charger came out the factory with a 318 and someone allong the way put a 383 in it.
Please feel free to pop over and when you do bring your pinstriping stuff with you and you can do our new post box  Grin
