Right looking at the Haynes manual for Robins and Kittens 1973-83, 748cc & 848cc, it says -

Robin with 750cc engine up to No 7941 -------------Lucas 23D4,
Robin with 750cc engine from No 7942 --------------Lucas 43D4,
Robin with 850cc engine and all Kitten models -----Lucas 45D4.

Does this answer your question?

I'd imagine all the 850s will be the same VB, except maybe the fabled high compression version that everyone says was made, but no-one's actually seen.
If you can read Adobe Acrobat documents, I've got the whole Haynes manual copied onto a disc as one giant document. Can send you a copy, (subject to the Post Office strike backlog), if you want it.

ok posted on R3W forum so far Sparesman2000 posted this titbit Smiley

If they are both 45D ones yes
the early 750 cc engines still used the 25 D which I wouldn't advise using although can see no reason why they shouldn't work.

but to get best results from an 850 cc engine I'd advise the later 45D ones that use the so called "blue contacts" first used in 1978 I think which because of the way they work use a dwell angle of 58 + or- 5 as against the earlier 45D ones which used a dwell angle of 51 + or - 5

then Macplaxton wrote..

Physically yes and it would run.

But I'd worry if someone else has been there before you. Tell you what, post the code numbers that are stamped on the side of the distributor body and well see if we can compare them.

so im off to find out the no's Smiley

Got a link for that Brock? I'd like to fit one to mine. Would that eliminate the need for the ballast resistor?
