I feel your pain Wayne! I've got a real phobia of tests & exams -couldn't face going into the test centre when my truck was SVA'd & had to send Kapri, Scottie & Loony in while I waited outside. Looking back on it now though, it really wasn't so bad & the VOSA & DVLA people were all friendly & helpful. They don't want to stop you getting on the road, just to make sure you're legal & safe.

I'd sooner be with the trike(or car in the case of an MOT)just so I can see what the tester is doing to it. Also if I'm there I can actually see what wants doing in the case of a fail. Still dosn't stop me sh#*?ng broken glass

Ouch! Yeah, that was our strategy -when they fail something, ask them what they'd recommend to fix the problem. That way they're more likely to pass it when it comes back & they can see that you're listening to their advice.

Just got my confirmation letter from VOSA, I know it hasn't told me anything new but it makes everything feel a bit more official.

I had a little ride today and thought it would be a good idea to really open her up. The steering was all over the place, thrashing from left to right,on the return run I set off in a more civilised fashion. All was fine and it handled well is this a common problem and will a steering damper and a softer front tyre cure it as I have been advised ?

They'll definitely help. More rake on the front end would cure it, but a bit late at this stage. Standard raked bike front ends tend to be a bit skittery as the 2 big back wheels over ride what you're doing with the bars. More rake makes the front end much more stable, but also makes the steering heavier at low speeds. You've got very short clip on handlebars. Wider bars will give you more leverage which would help a lot.

I really do like the look of the short handle bars,I think I'll run them for a bit and see how it goes Could I use a damper off of something like a GSXR or R6 and what sort of pressure should I run in the front tyre?

This seems to be a very common problem on bike converted trikes and most end up with a steering damper fitted. As for front tyre pressure all you can do is try different settings, but don't go too low. The side loading when cornering is much higher than on a bike. A lot of folk fit a sidecar tyre on the front ( I use a car tyre ) to handle the extra loads and to get more suitable profile.

I think I may struggle for a sidecar or narrow car tyre as my front wheel is a diddy 16"
