A pre '66 motor racing event (with motorcycles) with a difference, at the Goodwood circuit near Chichester in W Sussex. A good excuse to dress up in period costume if that's your bag as the whole place is one big nostalgia trip with wheel to wheel racing too. There’s usually a good air show featuring historic planes. Quite an event, though ticket prices are £35 for Fri and £50 for Sat, £50 for Sun when I looked on the website today ( www.goodwood.co.uk). Agree the cost for the day isn't small, esp if the family go!!! Quite a chunk to find.
I kinda save up for it then it doesn’t seem so bad (!!) (£1 a week per adult and you have a ticket).
Yeah, there’s the fuel cost depending on how far you have to do, for me its an hour, and over 45mpg so maybe I‘m lucky.
I also take my own munchies etc so don‘t fork out (pun !) on their food, plus you can get a hand-stamp to go back to your car if you want so you don‘t need to lug it all day.
Food there has what someone described to me once as having “March” prices (referring to Lord March)…… draw your own conclusions.
You can tell I have too much spare time, but I did a rough calculation of cost per hour. Say you go on Saturday (race day 1), arrive at 8 and leave at 6 (believe me, there’s a fair bit to see, plus you can spend an extra hour looking round the car park on the way out if you‘re as sad as me), that’s 10 hours for £50, so £5 per hour.
If someone smokes a pack of 20 at, say, £5 packet, 3 mins per fag, works out at £5 per hr.
If you drink two pints at £2.50 a pint in an hour, £5 per hour
Cinema - £7 ticket for 2 hours (sitting indoors) £3.50 per hour
Stock car racing £12 for say 5 hours, £2.40 per hour (half the price).
If you’ve always wanted to go, go on, save the pennies and treat yourself, its quite an event, in fact its been considered world class, and for some of us, its kinda on our doorstep too.

Taz smokes about 40 a day, though she's convinced it's less, (it ain't). I keep telling her that would pay for the paintjob on her car, or a new interior, or all new chrome, or a good holiday, or even a cheap little hotrod to run about in every Summer, but you can't make someone give up by nagging, (I've tried). Scary when you work it out like that isn't it.

A packet of 20 cigs last me 2 days ie 48 hours - that's 10½p an hour by my reckoning! I missed a golden opportunity a few years ago when my niece was doing some of the interviewing and would give me a free ticket - but I was away somewhere else at the time!
