well a while ago by brother in law bought his kid's an off road kart with reverse gear yesterday it lost all drive to the wheels so it landed in my garage to see what was wrong. the reverse box is mounted on the end of the gearbox output shaft and is self contained,the sprocket for the chain is bolted to it.

after stripping it the problem is the bolts holding the sprocket on have sheared so drilling them out and taping to the next size up will get it sorted,unfortunately they broke inside the casing and damaged the tread .

but anyway some pics of inside the reverse box in case it helps anyone with an idea for one for a trike

me either  Grin Grin it pulls the gears back when you engage reverse but don't know much more than that at the minute will do by the time its back together  Grin Grin

It's called a planetary reversing gearbox. The four planet gears, reverse the direction of the large ring gear, relative to central sun gear when the plate they are mounted on, is not locked to the drive shaft. Or something like that Smiley
