As i have not posted any pictures to date i just posted that one to see what would happen. As it looks alright i try and do the write up Friday evening or over the week end

Hear goes, hope this might help or encourage some one to get back on two wheels or to build your self a trike.Don't say i cant do that,we all got friends if they good friends use them. theres people on here like one arm bandit who has built his own he's got a knackered arm, hope he don't mine me saying that as we have never met.The bike i am showing on hear was built by my brother who has lost his right arm, he did most of the work himself,he had help taking and putting back in of the engine.i dont know how he did it but he even done his own fork seals

this next picture is what i started this thread with.If you look at the grip you will notice it's cut in two.The bit on the inside is the throttle part,he uses his forfinger and thumb to operate, his other three fingers grip the other part which is glued to the bars

What i faild to say about the throttle picture is the leaver you can see is not the clutch but the front brake

You want to know were the clutch leaver is? Well I'm not telling,OK i will, here it is, he uses is knee to operate it

That's a very creditable enterprise Sir, and I for one would certainly like to see further photographic views of this build, and more power to your obviously very determined, and indeed very able Bro's efforts, puts many "able" bodied, and I am being selective here! "potchers", a good old fashioned slang word that, but covers the situation here I feel, to shame! good effort me old son!....Morrag ;D ;D ;D

Impressive! Having to retrain your mind to operate a completely different set of controls can't be easy -I think I'd end up in the hedge on the first corner trying to ride that.

I'll have you know in my whole 33 year riding career, I've only ended up in a hedge once or twice!

I am still trying to imagine how you can operate the throttle with thumb and forefinger while gripping with other fingers. Sat on settee trying it but my old fingers don't move we'll enough to even pretend. I always thought it would be all twist grip. Clever stuff about isn't there?

Title: Re: just testing

You will notice in this picture he has got rid of the original air box and put K and N air filters on and found the bike ran like a pig.He took it to the local bike tuning shop and ask for them to set it up,they got it running which was more than what it was doing but not right. So he borrowed a set of carb vacuum gauges and started messing around with the main jets and now it runs on song

A better look at the brake lever, you can also just make out the fork legs are not standerd they are GSX1100 upside down forks. He had to have a new stem fitted to the yokes to fit the bandit frame

Just a bit more information on the bike before i reveal the overall look, where shall i start, the seat is made of two halves the front 5 or 6 inches  is the bandits so it fits the tank the rear part is a yamaha R1 he had the two halves plastic welded together then reupholstered. As you will see he has cut the original back end off the bandit, in place he welded on brackets to bolt a R1 back complete with rear l.e.d light with built in indicators. The yokes, forks, swinging arm and the rims of the wheels have been professionally polished the engine cases and other small bits he polished himself. So here it is hope you are impressed as i was the first time i saw it

I must admit I don't normally like bandits but that is one sexy looking machine, and the adaptations are looking superb.
Nice one.

In this picture his hand ;D as i have mention before he has two bikes this one and a Honda 250 motorcrosser which he green lanes. As the hand detaches from the lower part of the arm he has a hand for the motorcrosser in a different glove ;D
Just so you know the only time you will see him wear his arm is when he his on his bikes or when he is fishing, yes that's right fishing we both like carp fishing, oh by the way he also ties his own hooks. He says its not his arm, he lost that on the night of his accident,  the false arm is like a screwdriver or a spanner in a tool box no more no less

Merv can he use the hand fixed to the grips for stability?

It can take ages before you get it fixed in your head that whatever bit you lost has really gone and any prosthetics are 'tools' in your brothers words. Once you get to that stage you have beaten it ;)

Excellent job on the bike and adaptations, much more than I could have thought of never mind done, well done to him.

And yes Andy, laugh was the correct response :)

Hi nabsim
the short answer is yes,he lost his arm up to t shirt sleeve level. So the prosthetic arm starts with a shoulder cup going down to an elbow joint then down to the wrist joint which the hand locks into. The hand is the only part that separates from the arm.He can lock all the joints so the arm is totally stiff or he can have it so every thing swivels. He has no need to lock it all up so he keeps it so it all swivels,so his upper body is supported through the arm down to the bars but every thing moves through the movement of the left hand side of the bars. The hand has shaped fingers and the thumb is spring loaded which is quite stiff so locks to the bars but if he came off the hand would detach from the bars just like a normal hand.Hope this explains a few things

Bet it helped with his balance Merv. When I was inatfoo my legwe had a guy come I who had chopped one hand off and a few fingers and thumb off his other hand. He had his arm to mid forearm but he had loads of different attachments for it. One of them was like a pool queue rest that he used for snooker and pool. He brought a few in with him and it was amazing what he had thought up. Whenever I remember him I think of that sergeant in the foreign legion (was it Phil Silvers) with loads of. Different false legs including the canon :)

Hi oab
I don't know how bad your arm is but don't be to hasty because once its gone its gone,if there is any hope consider it. My brother comes under the Bristol limb center and they cant do enough for him.He asked about the hand and they came up with the spring loaded thumb also because he likes fishing they made what looks like a pig tail which fits into the wrist instead of the hand and the fishing rod fits into it.I don't know what handed you are but Nick was right handed and that was the arm he lost.So he had to start all over again on how to do things but with his left arm.Just so people know having a disability is not the end of life, since loosing his arm he has built a workshop out of 4inch concrete blocks by him self i helped with the roof that's all. Also he has taken up karate and now he is one belt away from his black belt first dan.I wish you all the best oab its a shame we don't live closer it would be nice to go for a pint or what ever your tipple is.
