Sunday, September 11th 2011 - The Ace Cafe Reunion Run (Brighton Burn-Up)

This one of the biggest, perhaps the biggest, motoring events to fill the tarmac along Madeira Drive - although its immediate competitor, the Brightona, grows ever larger as well. Some claims put the total number of participants as high as 40,000. But whatever, the city is certainly heaving with motorcycles of all shapes and sizes on the day.

Bikers come from all over the country; in fact, all over Europe - and maybe even further afield.
This is a a sight worth seeing! Bikes start to arrive mid-morning and fill up the Drive: the noise, the smell of petrol fumes, the wave and wave of arriving bikers all generate an atmosphere of excitement. A great coming together.
By the time the Drive has filled up, a vast range of motobikes is on display. If you look long enough, I reckon you'll find what you're looking for. Bikes and bikers of all ages; bikes, trikes, sidecars; every manufacturer's name in the history of the motorcycle in represented. An exaggeration perhaps, but you'll certainly find Vincent, Norton, Kawasaki, Honda, Harley-Davidson, Victory, BSA, BMW, Triumph, Suzuki, National Chopper Club, and many customised machines, especially trikes.
There's also a stage, DJ, rock'n' roll, bands, etc.

I love this event, plenty to do and see and the atmosphere is just superb. Aim to get there early though as it soon fills up.

I used to go on what was called "The Rockers Reunion Run" years ago (early 80's).

Loads of bike pouring into Brighton.  Smiley

Poor old Madeira Drive, gets filled with stationary bikes on the Sunday, having seen bikes run at 165mph on the same stretch of tarmac the day before (Sat 10th) at the annual Speed Trials (the first running of the Speed Trials was 1905).

Sitting here in the hot sun listening to the band. Day got off to a slow start because of uncertain weather and bikes not being let in on arrival. We were here for 8am and thought we had the wrong day. Missed some of the atmosphere created by the mass arrival of bikes but atmosphere has improved. Not so many stalls as previous years but then again, not so much money about.

Ah well, that's because I didn't go on my trike, let the side down!  Embarrassed

There were some lovely looking trikes there. I particularly liked the Harley trike parked right behind the bus they were using for announcements. Looked well worn but nicely balanced.

Surely the Red Baron cafe racer would suit him better?
