Someone recently asked what sized bolts are used on Reliant engines. Can't find the thread now, but while perusing our extensive filing system, (a big heap of paperwork in the spare bedroom), this morning, I came across this list, sent to me a few years ago by Mr Flap when we were ordering parts for his orange "Flapster" trike. Thought it might be of use to fellow Reliant triketeers.
Timing cover
Bolts 1/4" unc x 2" 2 off 1/4" unc x 3/4" 5 off Nyloc nuts 1/4" unc 2 off
Cylinder head
Nuts 3/8" unf 6 off
Gearbox
Top plate 1/4" unc x 3/4" 8 off Top gearbox to engine 5/16" unc x 3" 2 off
Thermostat housing
1/4" unc x 3/4" 3 off
Distributor clamp
1/4" unc x 1/2" 1 off
Carburettor to inlet manifold
5/16" unc x 1/2" 2 off
Inlet & exhaust manifolds etc
5/16" unc

If you know any more, such as the rest of the gearbox to engine bolts, rocker cover nuts etc, we'll add them to the list.

It was me asked on someones thread asking about bolts for a bike engine. Thanks for that Andy, will get some stailness ones ordered up for reliant trike. I am crap with imperial threads, shouldn't be cos it was imperial when I was doing my apprenticeship bu thad nowt to do with them for 40 years inbetween

Metric measuring & decimal money came in while I was in secondary school, so I learnt kinda half n half. Even now, when I measure something I'll write it down half in Imperial, half in Metric -2 5/16" x 15mm etc!

Cant remember exact year it came in, it was after I started work in 68 but not that many years probably71ish? You still at secondary school eh youngster? We only used imperial at the machine shop I was apprenticed in and I am almost certain it was the same on day release at Brooklands. For the last gawd knows how many years I have used both though and not really a problem, its the Whitworth fine and coarse and BA and everything else that stumps me.

Hi Does anyone know the sizes/threads on the eight studs/nuts that hold the diff housing together? More to the point...where I can get a set from? Cheers

Not sure I'd use nylocs, possibly the nylon could soften with heat.

DONT USE NYLOCS ON HEAD STUDS well i wouldnt,,
you get what i would call a false feel when torqing down the head as the nyloc bite,s the thread giving the torque wrench a false feel

The cylinder head nuts came loose on my last Reliant trike & left me stranded at the side of the road one night. So I now torque them down then add a second nut on top to be sure. The second ones are dome nuts, which aslo hide the ends of the steel studs.
