Alternators

Carrying on from my stripping the alternator to polish it....Been looking at some really practical Alternator rebuild you tube clips. I then looked on e bay. The cost of most of the disposable internal bits is only about £20! The seller is quite local,so Im gonna go there to collect a kit. The rear part of my casing has a small crack in it,the guy reckons he may have a casing laying around. Im also hoping to get some tips from him about rebuilding ,but TBH it looks real easy for the Lucas unit fitted to Reliants ,just a matter of swapping over components.

rod can i push my luck to see if you could list what parts you need and the place that is suppling them that kind of thing todo alternaters refurb on reliants  seems tobe a big secret so would help

No big secret,looks a doddle! Not good with doing links! I just e bayed "rebuild parts for Lucas AI27 Alternator." The place I chose is in Harlow,so not too far for me.Im going there next Monday.I googled " rebuilding a Lucas alternator" ,or "how to re build a Lucas alternator"and found the vids.I could watch this stuff for hours ,so informative,and basic. Also has vids on starter motor(my next strip down to polish the mounting flange (oo er missus).......... In the s/motor vid he does talk about a place to get the stuff on line. But there seems to be a few places TBH.........Hope this helps.I need to knock up a s/motor dog spring compressor tomorrow !I have removed the spring by using a vice in the past ,but its very dodgy if it lets go !

I must say that a dynamo does look better than most car alternators although Thunderace has used some neat little French ones that actually look quite nice. Ugly things normally though. Am I right in thinking that in looks a VW alternator is almost identical to the VW dynamo on the beetles?

Took me all of an hour to make a starter dog removal tool with a few bits of scrap I had lying around. Works well!

I believe thats is the case, I can distinctly remember not believing the person that told me that when I was working on a Baja Beetle once.

Nope they are different. I have two engines here one with each on so I'll post a pick later!
