Can anyone explain how those little 'dog bone' shaped bits allow the rear suspension to be raised on streetfighter-y type bikes?

Using different length dogbones in effect lengthens the shock,
by rotating the knuckle that the shock is attached to,
the shorter dogbone will raise the back -end.

Me neither!  I'm so glad someone asked - but the answer just says what they do, not how they do it!  - or where?

By pivoting  Grin.
Check the pic, and which bit is bolted where on the triangular plate, then imagine what would happen if you altered the length of the dogbone.
A longer one will push the plate back and pull the shocker down, a shorter one will pull the plate forward and in turn raise the shocker.
