Aluminium fuel tank for a Silk motorcycle. The stripes are painted but the lettering decals are old stock original. The bike will hopefully be on show at a local bike meet at Popham airfield, Hampshire next weekend.

The airfield manager's a biker -can't remember his name off the top of my head - maybe that's why they hold so many bike events there. He emailed me a couple of times last year, talking about setting up a combined hotrods & custom bikes weekend show there. Haven't heard any more for a while.

Remember Chris's Moggy Minor project? The one he plans to run on a Reliant Scimitar chassis? The frame was about 10 inches too long, but after breaking his collar bone, Chris had to take it easy for a while, so after a bit of time off, a couple of days ago Loony & he chopped it clean in half, across the middle, which was the narrowest point, removed the excess length & spliced it back together. Looks kinda funky so short, especially with the new, larger sized rear tyres on the original Scimitar rims.

That looks like its going to be a whole heap of fun. Mr.M you say: Loony & Chris chopped it clean in half, across the middle, which was the narrowest point, removed the excess length & spliced it back together. Like its the most natural thing in the world, I'd be afraid that I'd cut in the wrong places then spend hours and hours crying The boys have got a lotta bottle.

There was a lot of discussion about building jigs & where to cut, but in the end they decided to stop talking & just go for it. A bit like us when we chopped my Pop bodyshell in half -Loony & I stood there for ages worrying whether we should do it & how & where to cut. In the end my missus, Taz, said "Oh for Gawd's sake, give it to me", grabbed the disc cutter & laid into it. "There ya go, now get on with it". Sometimes the best way to do it.

Another day, another job. Forum member ByzMax arrived at the 'shop today with a VW "Beach Bastard" trike. Quick history lesson for the non bikers: Half bodied VW trikes have been around in the States since the 60s, but it was Chris Ireland of "Desperate Dan's" trike shop, who introduced the British to them with the project he built for Back Street Heroes magazine & christened "Beach Bastard" after the V Dub beach buggies. Since then, it's become a generic name for any such trike. Iain, (Byz), built this one for himself a few years ago, but it's been through a couple of owners since then. The latest took it back to Iain for a rebuild -which is where Loony comes in. Some repairs that need smoothing out, some filler that needs re-doing, then a fresh coat of paint. Red I believe. Good to see you Iain.

Nik's own project -a race prepped VW Golf, in for a roll cage, various repairs & a paintjob. Currently having it's sunroof replaced with sheet steel.

This one's been in for a while. A Bedford truck. The owner plans to take it to the Dorset Steam Fair in a couple of months, before which Loony has to completely repaint it. Easy.
