Now this is a good un.........

Sunday 30th Jan from about 9.30am

I've been watching this at Hungry Hill since the mid 80's, good selection of bikes ranging from girder forked rigids to the more modern teles & swing arm machines, and there are sidecars too.

Turn up with your walking boots (it can be muddy and steep), keep your eyes open for the bikes and wander................

about a mile from Tescos, on Military land to the west side of the A325, south of the roundabout with A323, car park access (a track into the heathland) is from the Wellesley Road.

Pedestrians can get access from the A325.

Old bikes n mud,

Although not footage of the Talmag, here's a British Pathe clip from 1938 of the Bemrose Trial in Derbyshire (I say Mr Chomedley Warner, spiffing commentary!)

Just thought I'd 'refresh' the page in case anyone's interested as its this coming weekend. No entry fee or car park charge, and there's always been a burger van, so odds on, there will be this year too. Wink

Found ref to the event at

I love old trials bikes, though I must admit, I've never been to a meet. They just look very cool I think.

A frosty but clear start to the day boded well for good Talmag weather.
Around 200 competitors were found kick-starting various bits of modified machinery into life ready for scuitineering and the 9.30 kick off on the miltary land near Aldershot, and as time wore on, the number of spectators continued to grow.
Most of the competitors are probably (well?) over 40, some however are most certainly into their 60s and maybe a bit more, a few 'youngsters' too.... great to see such an age range all having fun.

Most of the bikes are single cylinder, ranging from 200cc Triumph Tiger Cubs up to 500cc Ariel, Norton, AJS/Matchless, with a spattering of Royal Enfields (named after the place where the Queen keeps her chickens), Velocettes, a couple of Panthers – bet Shaun spotted them!, and an rather rare 1959 MV Augusta 125.

This year seemed to have a larger percentage of Triumph twins in solo trim (not bolted to a sidecar), (maybe building a single is getting more expensive/difficult?).

For those not aware of what Trials is all about, the idea is to ride a course without stopping, putting a foot down, missing a marked 'gate'. Any of these basically give you penalty points, here, less points mean prizes.
There are two levels of difficulty, primarily to split the clubman/novice rider from the more talented riders, and to split the type of bike between those with girder forks (and almost by default solid rear end), and those with teles.

Here are some snaps to give a bit of a flavour of the event, you'll notice some of the bikes are completely “oily rag”, where others so neat n tidy it seems a shame to get 'em dirty.
