We knew there’d be less stalls than usual as its the Stafford weekend, but even we were a bit surprised at how few there were, and we've been going to Kempton since it was at the Ascot racecourse, if that makes sense!

My chums Andy & Colin's shopping lists were left with loads of 'couldn't finds', but hey ho, we bumped into other mates and shot the breeze.

So here a are few snaps to give a flavour of the day.

Next Kempton is scheduled for Sat 4 Dec.

Nice pics as always Tone. All the jumbles seem to be down in size this year. Don't really know why -Id've thought the recession would encourage recycling & bargain hunting.
Is that Stateside Honda a CB500T? First bike I ever rode on -pillion with the guy who went on to teach me how to ride.
The high level pipes on that first Triumph- do you think they could be adapted for an XS650 Yam? Planning to fit similar on my chop project.

Hello Mr M.

The Honda had "450 DOHC" badges, which ties in with the rest of the bike as I believe its a CL450.
Not aware of what the differences are between its engine and that of the CB500, cept the CB450 was around first and they look pretty darn similar.

Don't know about adapting the pipes from the first Triumph...... you'd have to ensure they fit the head (is the XS port spacing and dia the same as the Triumph?) clear the down tubes, and then sit well enough together along the left of the bike........  oh, and you'd have to find some ….....

Personal view is two pipes along one side can look good, but the other side can look wanting, and the XS leans to the LHS on side stand meaning the RHS is more visible.
If they're high, you'll notice the heat on your leg (which may or not matter) but I took a Buell Ulysses for a test a few years ago and got a warm leg (ooh err misses) on a chilly March day whilst wearing leathers, so it has to be a consideration.

If you fancy some tightly bent pipes along one side, have a look at some pre '65 trials machines for inspiration (or maybe even the CL450)

Although it can be costly, having them made to suit means you get just what you want, but its all a matter of knowing.

A CL450 showing the rather naked side without exhausts for info.

Both shots from the web

Just always fancied high pipes. I like the look. Tried several times to work them into a trike build, but with a Reliant engine, the exhaust would be on the left, the same side as the gearstick.
Probably be buying some pre-formed bends & making up my own system in mild steel, then getting it chromed.

When I'm trying to get an idea to work, I kinda cheat a bit and look at what others have done, and one of the places I look is ebay USA.

Currently there's an XS500 & XS650 with high pipes
