Thinking about the prepping and painting of my axle.....Im a bit dubious about cleaning back the axle tubes to shiny metal as Ive been told they are quite thin walled, and I'm worried it will compromise the strength of the axle. Has anyone else thought about this?

Having just taken one of our Reliant axles back to as near shiney metal as possible - stilll a few rust pits here and there - now you come up with this! Grin
Oh well, fingers crossed I haven't done too much damage Huh

Sent from my Sony Vaio in France on route to Crete. Picasso doing well averaging 60mph and 43 to the gallon according to the on-board computer.
PS on the trip down to Dover saw only two trikes - one fairly decent one named Dinasour and one ( think it was a Virago ) being loaded onto the back of a recovery truck. Felt sorry for them as it was lovely day for a ride.

The average wall thickness of a Reliant axle tube is around 3.0mm on a 50.00mm O/D, so provided you are just cleaning surface rust  and minor rust damage, no worries! Morrag
