I had an unexpected break in the form of a few days away in Old London Towne courtesy of Mrs B so nothing has been done to anything for a week, however, the house is full of outlaws tomorrow and being an unsociable git I'll melt away like a wraith, and indeed wraith to the thed and give it a try, maybe photos tomorrow, or hospital !

Got bored taking the race car apart to alter the transmission ( again) tonight so had a little play with it. As most have guessed, it is actually a high speed hair dryer, not having a handy volunteer we just set it up on the ground to test it.

Ignition on, air on, gas on, big bang and flash of flame, then nothing. Back the gas pressure off a bit and try again, ooooh, it runs, after a fashion.

It will run with the ignition turned off, which is good, but not without the forced air feed which isn't. More research needed, from the extent of the heat pattern on the body it looks like I may have made the combustion chamber too long, it was all a bit of a guess at the sizes and some development was bound to be needed, but it's a start. A few shots with the flash turned off, the camera is very susceptible to shake in low light as you may be able to discern ( ! ) but they do show the heat patterns on the body

That's one serious hair dryer!
So it's a jet engine then. A "pulse jet" -what exactly does that mean? And what does one do with one's jet, now you've made it? How much thrust would that generate, (I'm sure you've already worked it out Smiley ). Enough to power ...? a bike? A go cart? A double decker bus? How would you mount it in a vehicle without melting everything around it? Can you regulate the power, or is it literally point & fire? Have you managed to burn down the workshop with it yet?
I'm so glad insanity doesn't run in our family, big brother!   Tongue
