Hi

I have done some thinking and come up with an idea using a reliant axle softtail
i just think this may be a lot easier then my sierra diff design

ok here it goes
i thought of building a swingarm to enable the soft tail option. see No1

i added wheels and a perticular stile frontend i can't remember the name of in No2 for no apparent reason Cheesy

No3 shows my idea from the back and i included the curve as i figured the reliant diff may strike the bottom of the upper part since i'm a heavy bugga.
gonna figure that out as i build it

No4 shows the swingarm from the top, (orange) and the axle, (grey) and suspention units in red

would this work and please remember this is just a rough sketch made on paint

thanx for the advise and offer

i got no room in the moment to store or build anything and i need to get the bird room sorted first before i start building
i'm trying to get a better idea first of what is involved and what i need

maybe i should go for the hardtail option after all
got lots of time to figure it out i suppose

anyone wanna swap some budgies for a frame Cheesy

Not a good photo but it is a soft tail using a reliant axle.

I'll take some more tomorrow to try to show it better.

Hiya Uli -unusual name, short for something else?
Does it have to be a soft tail? Having ridden quite a few thousand miles on various hardtails, they're really not anywhere near as harsh a ride as non hardies think they are. Less moving parts, bearings etc to wear out & a much simpler, cleaner frame design. I can understand the fun in designing & building a clever suspension set-up, but I tend to go with the easy option meself!

Hi Manky
yes its short for Ulrich

i actually never ridden a hard tail so i can't really comment
i just think a soft tail would be more comfy.

i do like the look of both your frame designs
the latter being the meaner looking

maybe i need to ride one to make my mind up

the good thing is there is no rush to get it build so i can spend lots of time thinking it all over

Yeah, the Motors, 3 wheels section of the main site is a good place to find inspiration. Plenty of variety in there to get the creative juices flowing. Oh, welcome to the site by the way!  Wink

I’m in South Hertfordshire and have the Manky hard tail below. Find it pretty comfy with the right tyre pressures, your welcome to take it for a blat round the block it you want.
