I joined the AA a couple of years ago after breaking down on the M5, cost a fortune at the time but was worth it to get back home. The first time my membership came up for renewal, i just accepted it and carried on, the second time i thought i`d look for something cheaper but never got around to it and so my membership lapsed. I got chatting to one of the guys that stand in car parks asking you to sign up and told him i was a member until it lapsed and that i thought the renawal cost was high, he gave me a code number to quote over the phone and it nearly halved the cost!
Today i just had a renawal quote through, at £121.50, for Roadside assistance & relay (to get home again), this covers ME not a specified vehicle, so having a few rides & drives its a good package, but.......
Once again it seemed expensive, so i check the website......... £72.45 (with introductory discount), which means if i let my membership lapse, leave it a week then sign up over the `net, i save nearly £50.00.
Ok, i may have the inconvienence of having to sign up again, but is having an automatic renewal really worth £50.00......i think not.

I stick with RAC as they do a package for disabled people that comes up at around £110 but this includes everything ie: roadside, recovery, homestart plus you are a priority call when you breakdown and its not linked to any vehicle it just covers whatever you are with.....( I used to have my own recovery business a few years back and used to contract for most of the recovery firms, I noticed a lot of the smaller firms ie Green flag,Brit rescue etc dont have bike friendly operators, not only do they know nothing about bikes but they dont have the vehicles to carry bikes. So its best to stick with either RAC or AA when getting membership to cover bikes or trikes)...Voodoo....
My old 10T Truck,Tilt and Slide bed for bike and Trike loading and underbody spec for second vehicle recovery...good old truck I did many 1000's of miles in that...

I use the RAC and it costs me nothing. My step father pays for it as I'm on his policy as a family member. This also covers me so what ever I'm in gets recovered and it's the full works too. I've used it for works vehicles too but have to give his addy as the home addy as that's where I'm registered for it.

i'm with the aa and being a member of a classic car club i get a discount through them. never had a problem with calling 'em out. only once did i complain and i got a cheque from them and an apology. the relay driver who picked me up had come down from up north with a car and was picking me up on the way back, it was a busy weekend as they'd been busy around dover, southampton and portsmouth. in the wrong place at the wrong time. that was the longest i've had to wait they've usually arrived in 30 minutes.

AA got me back from the Dragon a couple of years ago, took a few hours but the equipment and service was excellent so I can't complain. Reason for recovery !!!! a very misguided mod from a fellow POC member caused my primary chain to go bang and not be repairable roadside  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes next time I will leave it as P&M intended  Wink Wink
