making cables

I like the tip for cutting outers with a disc and a vice, but I bought a pair of cable-cutters very cheaply at a cycle sale and only ever use them for this job. There is a company in Wombwell (or Cudworth) that organise these one-day cycle sales in sports centres around the North, usually on a Sunday. They are always worth a look for cheap lubricant and cleaner, interesting handlebars etc

Well, here we go again its stoopid question time
What sort of solder should I use? Is it that stuff that plumbers use or that electrical stuff!
Are these solders basically the same or are they totally different. I believe that the plumbers solder has a higher melting point. If not I'm sure someone with more knowledge will tell me........please.
I've just fitted a set of higher bars on the virago 535 and need longer cables.

`standard` solder will be 60/40, thats 60% lead to 40% tin and will be fine, other stuff is available, silver solder for example, which has roughly 2% silver content, this does create a stronger joint but you will find it more or less impossable to use with standard type soldering irons as they just aren`t hot enough.
