Hello everyone, are we all enjoying the cracking weather? Great is'nt it!!! At long last. I believe we're in for some bad stuff on tuesday or wednesday. Still, what would the good old fashioned British summer be with out any rain,it would'nt be the same would it!!
I need a bit of advice on rear lights for the virago 535 trike. Yes its getting to that time Grin at last!!!!
I know about stop, tail and indicators, what I need to know about is marker lights. I'm confusticated Shocked Shocked
Do I have to have two marker lights on each side, one facing forward and one back? Or is it just one white facing forward on each side?
Thanks for the help.
Regards

Right. Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin.
According to the big yellow MSVA book of fairytales, you need a minimum of 1 front marker light, which must be white. If your trike's wider than 1300mm though, (which nearly all are), you need 2, mounted a maximum of 400mm from the outside edge of the vehicle, with a minimum of 500mm between the illuminated surfaces. You also need a tell tale lamp to tell you the lights are on.
At t'other end, if it's a super narrow trike you can get away with a single rear tail lamp, mounted centrally. Over 1300mm wide & you need 2, a maximum 400mm from the outside edge of the vehicle & 600mm between the illuminated surfaces. They also need to be a minimum of 250mm from the ground & a maximum of 1500mm.
Rear marker lamps mean of course, your normal rear lights.
Does that help?

Thanks Andy, you've saved the day yet again. I can go off to the little man and get the lights now. That will only leave....... New battery, refit the exhaust ( can fit all but one pipe which will have to go in to the 'shop'.) fork seals, bleed the front brake and then paint the mudguards.
Nearly there, though it sometimes feel like I'm running a marathon and some bleeder keeps moving the finish line!  Grin

Even if I had a trike that didn't legally need 2 marker lights I'd want something to show people it's wider than a bike, whichever way they are looking at me!

Thanks for the encouragement guys, the biggest problem is going to be getting one pipe sorted for the exhaust. Its stainless, I can't weld stainless as it would mean a roll of stainless wire and a tank of pure argon I think. I'll try to get someone out failing that it will have to go to the shop. That won't be so easy! Angry I can't even ride it to the shop, have to try to borrow a trailer and a car with a tow hook.
Not to worry though I think the exhaust will be last job to do, plenty to keep me going for a little while yet Grin
