We took the improved altered to avon park last weekend (14/15 june) for our shake down runs. Left home at just gone 10am friday and arrived at 1.30, Pete, Pet and family had got there about 9.30am, i was the 2nd on site. (Steve (brock) was the 3rd to arrive). The new garage (big tent) was allready up and waiting for the car so we unloaded and then i got my tent up. We checked the car over, levels etc, and warmed the engine up, run through the gears (found a fuel leak, again),and waited for saturday. Friday night was bloody freezing. Took the car for scrutineering and went and signed on.we decided to take it easy for the 1st run so fitted a 6400 rpm limiter chip and not use the trans brake, tried to burn out but the engine was too cold so staged, the lights went down, floored it and it bogged off the line then i miss shifted it into 2nd. about 3 quarter track the engine was on the rev limiter and the car was bouncing all over the place. I couldnt slow down enough to make the 1st turn off so had a bumpy ride to the end of the track. The crew came to get me and told me we ran a 10.01 133mph (best ever), its a wonder they didnt hear the cheering 100 miles away. Back to the pits, let the rear tyres down a bit (5psi now) and got ready for run number 2, upped the rev limiter to 6800 rpm, still not using the trans brake, staged, took off like a rocket, engine still bouncing off the rev limiter, cant make the 1st turn off again so in for a bone shaking ride to the end again, wait for the crew. a 9.7 135mph wow wow wow 2nd run straight into the 9s (im sure they heard the cheering in america). Got ready for run number 3, got in the staging lane, fired the engine, done a good burn out, staged, put the trans brake on and it didnt work, rolled through the lights and red lit, so didnt get any time or speed. Went for run number 4, got into the staging lane, put it into 1st gear NOTHING trans brake solonoid had burnt out so had to tow back to the pits, and that was the end of our racing for the weekend. We went to the club house saturday to celebrate, we changed the words to Franky valleys song "oh what a night" to the new team song "oh what a nine", The car ran real solid on our 2 runs. We will have it ready for the nostalgias in 2 weeks time and hope to be in the low 9s or maybe the high 8s.

Woo hoo! Congratulations Dave. Sounds like all that hard work & long nights in the garage are paying off.
Unfortunately Taz can't make the Nationals as she's working, but I'll be there to cheer you on.  Grin
