hi who can tell the law about front mudgaurds on bike,s and trikes  do i need one by law  will a bike fail a mot without one

yes for mot and yes for law but i never run one on chop just put one on for mot  and i doesnt state what size it has to be

When we put Flap's orange trike together we just used the steel brace that came with the GPX front end & threw away the big ugly fibreglass bit.

fairly sure its one of those daft ones that you dont need one to pass an mot, but you do need one for the road - the c&u stuff rings a bell in the back of my mind

Yup. When we took the Flapster for MOT the tester actually rang the Ministry for advice on the lack of rear guards. They said if they're fitted they must be fit for the purpose, but if they're not fitted they can't be tested so can't fail. If you're pulled up out on the road though, the nice chaps in blue can do you for not complying with the Construction & Use regulations. I've never actually met anyone who's been nicked for it, but I've heard of it happening. The hotrod guys sometimes carry a set of basic cycle style guards in the boot of their cars.

A guy in ipswich I know, he's mate was pulled in his 2cv "rod" without guards fitted and had his car impounded. Took quite some effort to get it back again.
