I have just had a letter from the DVLA regarding a meeting I had with them over the complete Horlicks they made of my Trike registration.

I have confirmed via the phone that this is LAW not rumour and has come from their policy department.

There are a few other details but the most important two are!

If your vehicle has been SVA'd or it's a disabled Trike you do not need an MOT for three years! Same as a new vehicle! This is because you will get a "Q" or age related plate and the V5 states new at first registration! This is regardless of the fact you may have built the vehicle out of second hand parts!

Those that do not need an MSVA and keep the original reg (Bolt ons) need an MOT

The other main one is that all vehicles regardless of what inspections have already taken place will require a DVLA inspection to check the composition of the vehicle and that the details match the SVA cert.

So i'm just writing to them to get the money back for my MOT!

Checked with the plod and they know nothing about it!!

That's worth knowing Byz. That means the cost of the MSVA will be balanced out by not having to pay for 3 MOTs!
My biggest concern is that I haven't got a single receipt for my trike parts. It's all second hand, bartered or home made. Do they ask for paperwork?

No receipts or Paperwork are needed if your parts are secondhand. It only really applies if you go for an age related plate and then you have to prove all the parts are new. Other than that receipts are only needed for proof of ownership but unless they have specific evidence that the donor vehicle was stolen at some point before you got it it will go through without any queries.

I provided no supporting documentation with the beach bastard. Not even the original logbook for the beetle and although it got delayed it was because they did not know what they were supposed to do. Roll Eyes

That's now sorted and all my applications go via the head honcho at Theale.

Changes have been made to the process to to ensure you can get an inspection on site if required at the time of application! (By prior arrangement)

Hope that helps

Yup, thanks. If I ever get as far as registering it, (seems a long way off at the moment), I'll be giving you a call.
