Spotted this afternoon in a local petrol station.
An Austin Allegro in chocolate brown with tan velour upholstery & beaded seat covers.
A true classic.  Cool

Must be getting quite rare now.  Can't remember the last time I saw one even at a show.

I was comparing it to the modern cars parked alongside & thought what a nice looking car it was.

I see a young lad most mornings coming the other way in one, in the superb hearing aid beige colour, I can't make my mind up if his grandad gave it to him as his first car or if he's a genuine inthusiast, he always waves when I'm in the bug so he may be a petrol head Cool

Last one I saw would have been in the 70's when it's front end collapsed as it was turning into the road junction outside my school.  British engineering at it's best

Actually allegro front suspension was based on the Austin 1100 design - millions sold and driven to a rusty grave without suspension issues. I suspect the one you saw was collapsed due to a broken lower balljoint, probably lack of maintenance. Easy to knock British engineering, sometimes warranted (the Allagro ended up being one of the ugliest cars around imho due to commitee design), but we'll still buy crap French and over priced German cars?

But wasn't the 1100 the same as the mini?  Front wheels used to fall off them regularly!
