Had been looking for this for a while and only just found it (the day before the event!)

From the Brooklands website

In 1897, the very first British motor races took place when the Motor Car Club, as a first anniversary celebration of their Emancipation Run from London to Brighton, organised a series of races for the De Dion Bouton motor tricycles on the quarter mile oval cycle track at Sheen House, Richmond Park.

The event will see a number of Trikes compete in a series of demonstration races, from one mile sprints, to the finale which will be the Club's Five Mile Championship on the Finishing Straight. Furthermore, they will be presented exactly as those first motor races, on an oval circuit.

It looks terrifying!   They look like they'd be more likely to tip over than drift round a bend!

When I was a teenager, the head of the bike club I belonged to was the "chair man" in a Norton Wasp motorcross outfit. We used to go & watch them race at a circuit next to the pub the club used.
Completely crazy.

Pics from yesteryear when a sidecar was bolted on to an exisiting 'road' going motorcycle.

ITV4 has been covering the 2019 IoM TT event this week, which includes the sidecar chaps & chapesses. The tv schedule shows some highlight progs on Wed 12th and Thurs 13th June if anyone's interested
