The 77th Pioneer Run, for motorcycles and 3-wheelers made before 1915, is scheduled for Sun 20th March 2016, organised by the Sunbeam Motorcycle Club (a club for any make of bike pre 1940, and Sporting Trials pre ‘65)

The Sunbeam Motorcycle Club has organised the Pioneer Run since 1930 and it is widely recognised as the premier event for pre-1915 veteran motorcycles.
The run starts at Tattenham Corner (Epsom), with the first bikes heading off at 08.00, and finishes at Madeira Drive on Brighton seafront.

Our lady of blessed acceleration, don't fail me now! - Elwood Blues

Nitro doesn't add power, it multiplies it! Bob Loux, running 10.07 secs @138mph on a 650 normally aspirated Triumph drag bike in 1965!

Sun 20th March 2016

08.00 and the first machine of about 340, a 1896 Leon Bollee Tricar sets off from Tattenham Corner Epsom to head to Brighton.

In previous we would have prob seen these off having got up at silly o'clock, this tear it was change of plan, and head to Reigate for 9.30 to se the bikes exit the town.

Got chatting to a competitor who's bike unfortunately had said "no more", and when we wandered to look at the bike, it only turned out to be a 1913 Fyling Merkel!! (American V twin of 955cc). Such a shame we didn't hear it, but it had chomped its tiny clutch.

The Flying Merkel  (who dat propping up the wall? Wink)

Back on the bikes, we followed the route down to Brighton where thos that had made the journey parked up on Madeira Drive.

Time for a mooch, cuppa and bacon buttie

Here's a pic of Sal's friend Fin (he runs a motorcycle shop in Redhill) with his Triumph, & on the left of the photo is Sammy Miller (who has a Museum in the New Forest)

The 1913 Wilkinson T.M.C.

From the company that brought us razor blades, this is a very advanced machine for 1913.

830cc, in-line four and liquid cooled
