Hollycombe has Britain's largest steam-driven traditional fairground, along with a narrow gauge steam railway as well as road rollers and engines and is permanently located at Liphook in Hampshire (not far from Hindhead, near the Surrey border). www.hollycombe.co.ukSunday's weather looked good, and the site will soon go into winter hibernation, so thought it was time for another visit. Once you've paid your entry fee, all rides are free, and the ticket allows you to revisit as many times as you like in the following year. There's a nice little café, proper loos, a gift shop and loads of free parking too. There a really friendly feel to the place, and all the rides are either directly powered by steam, or from electrickery generated by one of the engines. Some of the rides have their own music played on an organ (ahem!) which reads its music by punch-card, not bad for 1900 ish technology eh! Here are some snaps - first one shows a engine generating steam and feeding by pipe underground to some of the rides

Swingboats - there's a transfer shaft that the runs the length of all the boats. Within each boat there's a rope-pull connected to a brake which when engaged, swings the boat.

Here's an old railway signal box that was salvaged and re-located here. You can wander in and operated the (now disconnected) levers.
It even has most of the old communication system in place.
