anyone have any information about legalities of inline trike seats? thinking of having 2 pillions behind rider, all sitting astride the vehicle. ive seen a "factory" trike with 3 seats, think its by "smt"?

Any seat where the passenger does NOT ride astride the seat needs a seat belt - if astride they don't. I don't think there's anything about how many passengers can ride astride though.

As far as I'm aware, the only requirement is that each passenger has something to hold onto. This can be just straps across the seat.

I've never heard of that one! It would mean that any trike using the dual seat of the donor motorcycle would be illegal!

Most dual seats are fitted with a strap unless there are hand grips built into the bike.

. Don't suppose that you are the only one BG. Thought the GT550 had a grab handle behind the seat.
Think it's part of construction and use regulations and don't think it's a mot check item but is definitely required for MSVA if it is tested as a two ( or more ) seater.

Ah! That's the difference - my sort of trike doesn't have to go through MSVA as it's a 'bolt-on' conversion - only need to replace the swingarm, drive shaft and rear wheel and it's a bike again. I don't suppose you could build a triple seater as a bolt-on.
