The Festival of Speed is one of the world’s must-do motoring events, as much for the motor racing ‘royalty’ who attend as for the thousands of enthusiasts for whom this quintessentially British celebration is an unmissable part of summer.

No other motoring event attracts better cars or bigger names – and the unique Goodwood atmosphere ensures unparalleled access to both.  It wouldn’t be the Festival of Speed if visitors weren’t able to get close to the cars and chat to the drivers. The Festival of Speed is where fans and their heroes meet, united in their passion for motor sport and man’s quest for ever greater speed.

With the snaking 1.16-mile hillclimb dissecting the park and passing directly in front of the iconic Goodwood House, the scream of racing engines and smell of burning rubber provide a breathtaking juxtaposition with the pastoral beauty of the South Downs National Park in which the Festival of Speed takes place. The fastest car ever to take on the hillclimb – a Formula 1 McLaren in 1999 – recorded a time of just 41.6 seconds for an average speed of more than 100mph. Not bad for a ‘hillclimb’ that is actually the driveway to the house

No, but it's Purdy!
Looks like a fantastic day out Chris. Beyond my meagre means, but I'd love to go. Love the huge sculptures they produce every year -does that one really go right over the house?
What's the cream roadster at the top of your pics?
I'd like the Mercedes transporter please.

You got to do this event once in your life, it really is value for money. Yes the sculpture this year goes all the way over into the back yard!! I think it's the best one yet. The little cream roaster is a Maserati, but I don't know which one, 1950s I think. I'll find out, pretty car though.

Think it's a 57 Maserati 150 GT spyder. Wouldn't mind one but don't have £2.5million to spare at the moment.

I was lucky enough to get there on Sunday. A glorious day in the sun with good company and a sound track of tuned engines running to the limit all day.......awesome.

The sound of the wonderful motors was only drowned out when the Typhoon Euro Fighter did its display.....very impressive(I think virtually everybody was watching that!)

Tried out me new camera for the first time in anger.......

Love the pic of the Fiat S76. The wheels look incapable of holding the weight of the engine ! 4 cylinder 28,000 cc (7 litre per cylinder), must sound like thunder.

Lovely photos.  I went Thursday last year and really enjoyed it. Not too crowded.  That structure with the cars by the house is brilliant. I spent ages looking at it. I would have loved to have seen them erecting it.
