Can't believe that this is the only place I've seen this and it's only a few miles up the road!
Wont be able to get to November but December looks good to me.

Not heard of that one Dave, even though it's local to me. Who's organising that? What sort of cars are we talking here?
There was recent talk of restarting the drag races there that I remember from my youth. Anything to do with this meet?

MM Sir, interested to know what info you have about the rumour to have some drag races there as hadn't heard if this.
Be pretty cool if something could happen.  Grin

Anyone else heard anything??

We run a lot of vintage/historic (and newer) drag/sprint bikes at our club. Some of them may well be interested in running.

Looking at googlemaps of the airfield http://maps.google.co.uk/ , the long runway (parallel to the A30) appears 'live' as the runway doesn't have a  painted cross at each end (my understanding is painted crosses indicate a runway that is not available to aircraft).

That only leaves a couple of relatively short runways. Assuming the surface is suitable, these appear long enough to run an 1/8th without too much problem.
Personally, I couldn’t see the event allowing vehicles running towards the live runway (in case there was vehicle trouble), so the running direction would be either S to N on one runway, or SE to NW on the other.

If that’s the case, that means there’s no service road to the ‘start’ area, so I’m guessing they’d have to drive down, turnaround and be held as a batch. It looks like the runway’s the best part of 150feet wide, so that shouldn’t be too difficult (unless your in a rail!  Roll Eyes).

Wouldn’t it be good to go back to Blackbushe and catch some draggin’…………..  Cool

Heard talk of it several times over the Summer at various rod meets Toby. I'm sure there was something arranged, which later fell through earlier in the year.
Maybe your guys should approach the airfield owners?
Yeah, my first drag meet memories are of Blackbushe, crammed in the back of my brother's mark 1 Escort van with a bunch of mates for the trip over from Newbury.
Remember seeing Pinball Wizard race there. Here it is in '83. Smokin'.
One of it's engines, (it's had half a dozen over the years), is sat in my shed.

Back to Blackbushe for the first time since the seventies in the drag racing days, tonight there was a good gathering of rods, along with a couple of mankeys Renegade53 Colboys Chic and husband Colin, the airfield Cafe is very small and with the disco and rodders all tucked inside at times was bursting at the seems, with a loud speaker outside allot of people stood out in the cold and watched others jive the night away. Not the best of pics but will give you some idea of the motors that turned up, I expect Dave will post some pics of better quality soon.
