a nice day for a small showthe problem was the buses were crammed into a small area of the bus garage which made it a bit cramped. didn't take many pics there was also a short ride out on a double decker greenline 701

the clock in the background had a fault as it went through 12 hours in less than a minute. ah the sort of clock you need when you go to work.

the conductor of the greenline 701 double decker.

shame it was all crammed into such a small area, would of been nice to be able to look round the trolleybuses and buses without trying to avoid bumping into people. pity they didn't have them on the other side of the garage where there looked to be more room. fulwell and isleworth garages were the last garages to run trolleybuses, the services all finished on the 8th may 62

Hey Dave do they use a tug to move them or are they permanently static, I remember the trolley buses in Bournemouth very plush inside compared to our local stagecoach out in the sticks, at Christchurch there was a turntable for to send them back from hence they came propelled by hand, and I can remember the long crook they used for transferring the pickup rods from one line to a branch line on top of the bus roof, on rare occasions the rods would jump off and the conductor would have to run to a junction to get a crook and place the rods back on the wires. I remember riding the last one to run in Cleveland thy started on 8Th November 1919 and became the penultimate system as thy did not finish service till 18Th April 1971 thy had 3 routes and 21 buses running on wires at 550v DC we still have one on display at one of our local museums at which our bike club have our weekly meetings I later became a bus driver passing my test on my 21st birthday in 1972 then a trucker in 1974

there was a video/dvd playing of the last days of trolleybuses at fulwell and we annoyed some bus nuts by pointing out the various cars which were mainly fords and vauxhalls. anyway in the video it showed the guy in the road with his pole in hand moving the rods, interesting video to watch. the trolleybuses came from somewhere up north i think from a trolleybus museum. fulwell is still operating as a bus garage, i don't believe there are any at the cobham bus museum based at brooklands. the sheds in the background in the pics still had the numbers on them. mike who i went with said he remembered the trolleybuses and the poles outside the sheds at the garage and that they converted the street poles into street lamps when they did away with the trolleybuses. living in the sticks i don't recall trolleybuses

the nearest i got to a trolleybus was a tram at blackpool some years back. i liked being a bus driver when it was the nbc but when it was privatised it went downhill. a good job and free bus travel around the country and cheap national express fares and i think you got one free one a year. it was cheaper to go to merseyside on national than it was to drive
