Carb manifolds to fit British Amal carbs to an XS650 Yamaha.
Saw that Ebay ad about 6 months ago -that's why I bought a pair of Amal carbs for my own XS. I won't be paying 115 quid for manifolds though. I'll make my own from steel tube.

Ooooohhhhh....  "excess lovers" eh?  Wink   Grin  Grin

An alternative route from fitting the traditional British Amals (which certainly give the bike a real old skool look, and can confuse some folk  Wink  always good confusing folk  Grin  Grin) is to still junk the old CVs, but fit 'new' Mikunis such as the VM32 (or VM34) round slides, or if the pennies stretch far enough, flat slides.

I've a pair of VM32's that were running on a mates air-head 850 Beema which are intended to go on a XS650 750

The whole world of customising is strange........  but don't ya just love it  Grin

We see

Old Brit twins being fitted with modern Japanese Mikunis to improve running and change the look.

Old Jap twins (albeit a 'Brit twin' made in Japan) being fitted with British carbs to go old skool
OR
modern Japanese Mikunis to give performance (and change the look).

An 850 German Beema having modern Japanese Mikunis fitted for performance and then replaced with the original Bings (cos the engines now very tuned and Bings are apparently the way to go)

Ones man's junk is another man's treasure...............

I ran a pair of 32mm Dellortos on my XS650 chop many years ago, (featured in issue 35 of Back Street Heroes if I remember right, which shows how many years ago it was). The accelerator pumps meant it used to drink fuel like pouring it in from a bucket, but it went like a rocket.

I reckon I can beat that!!  Grin
I used to run a Weber DCOE40 (with accelerator pump) on an 650 pre-unit Triumph hillclimber running pump gas,  and the same Weber set-up on another 650 pre-unit Triumph 650 this time running Methanol (with suitably large jet sizes).  Guzzle guzzle....... so much that the manifold sometimes iced.  Grin  Grin  Grin

BSH (Bach Back Street Heroes) - I've got the first few years worth tucked away in a cupboard somewhere, I'll dig out #35 and have a look see.  Wink

And now for a different perspective, my mid-60's T100 still runs the round bodied Mikuni I fitted 30 years ago! but if that's becoming comonplace, then perhaps I'll refit the Amal !!  Morrag

This neat Triumph bobber I saw the other week was running a single Mikuni from what I remember.
