If it were about 600 I'd have that. I've had 3 or 4 XS650s, a couple of XS750s, an XS850 & an XS1100 for about a week.

When I used to buy cheap old bikes as daily commuters -like XS650s when they weren't all that old -the going price for a secondhand bike was roughly a pound per cc. So a 650cc bike would cost about 650 quid.
I do like them though. What's that one? 800 quid? Yeah, a bit steep. It hasn't even got the much prettier Akront spoked wheels. I'd pay 600 - 650 for a good running one with logbook etc.
-cos I haven't got enough projects already!  Tongue

No logbook. Probably fine, but always makes me a little wary. As you say though, nice lines.

Don't like that style of hardtail. See it a lot on xs's where they leave all the massive mounts which are originally for the swingarm. Pretty cheap though.

Erm.. I may have bought that first one. Accidentally. Sort of.

I always check any links you lot post here -just to make sure they work & that they don't link to anything we could get sued for.
1980 Yamaha XS650 SE.
I've been hankering after another one of those for a while now. I've had 3 or 4 over the years in various states of choppiness. Loony's got 2 in his workshop at the moment, Archie's & his mate Tom's, & I keep looking at them & thinking I wouldn't mind another. Just a very simple, basic little hardtail chop.

795 quid was a bit steep though, especially as I'd be cutting it up & throwing half of it away.
Mr VooDoo suggested making him an offer -so I did. 600 quid. Make it 650 & it's yours.
Bugger.
So now I've got another project.
I rented a Transit van & drove up to Lancashire today to collect it.
Not quite as pretty as I'd hoped. In fact, not pretty at all, but all the important bits are there. Reasonable condition forks, wheels, (one at each end), & an engine that actually runs -eventually. Took the seller 10 minutes of fiddling with a jumpstart pack & spraying half a can of EasyStart down the carb mouths before it coughed into life, but once it did, it didn't sound too bad. We agreed on 600 quid.
It's been brush painted in black Hammerite, the clutch & throttle were disconnected & the chain was hanging off the sprockets, but I'm going to cut it in half & hardtail it anyway.
It's not going to take precedence over all the other ongoing projects. I just grabbed it while it was there & will park it in the shed to tinker with when I feel like it. It'll give me an excuse to rummage for stuff at autojumbles.
