Grin Taz's old 3 litre BMW ClubSport used to do about 20 to the gallon. The Charger will do about half that, but we're planning on fitting an LPG tank in the boot, (Liquid Petroleum Gas). Current price for that's about 60p a litre & it'll do twice as many miles as normal petrol. Which will make the Charger about as efficient as the Beemer -not great, but a little more bearable.

When the body is finished, will there be any bits at all of the original car?  Cos it sounds from the lists you keep posting, that absolutely EVERYTHING is being replaced!

Maybe it ought to be SVA'd as a new vehicle but where do you draw the line between restoration & new build? We're replacing like for like, old panels for identical new panels. It's still a 1969 car as far as we're concerned but 90% of the body panels will be brand new. The rest will be from half a dozen different donor cars, plus a little bit of the original.
Just had an email from Jack's Autos in New Jersey with the shipping costs for the final box of bits. I'll arrange the wire transfer with the bank after work tomorrow, then they'll be on their way.
We called at the workshops this morning to pay a little more of our bill & check on progress. We were greeted with "Do you want the good news or the bad news?"
Oh Gawd, now what? We really can't afford any more problems. There can't be anything left that hasn't been repaired.
Turned out that John & the boys had tried our K member in place & found it's several inches out of line & wouldn't fit the straightened chassis. That's the front "clip" -the suspension/steering cross member. Actually we'd half expected that so it wasn't such a shock. With the amount of crash damage to the rest of the car it was inevitable really. Someone's had a go at slotting all the mounting holes to get it to fit so presumably it's been driven like that at some point. Scary.
A quick post on the Mopar Muscle Association forum & Taz located another from a '68/'69 Road Runner. Lots of the 60s machines shared components, so that's exactly the same as ours. I'll collect it from the seller at the Hotrod Drags in 2 week's time. This is a borrowed one from the workshops that shows how it should fit.

A spare K member sat in place, with our twisted one sat behind it.

John the owner of JC Refinishing, Taz & Andy the bodywork guy.

John's just invested a very large chunk of cash in a new toy -a long reach spot welder. That allows them to reach over the rear chassis legs to spot weld the new trunk floor in place. Ours is the first car they've tried it on. Previously they could only spot weld the outside edges of the panels & had to MIG weld the rest. Works just fine & means they can fit large panels in the same way they were at the factory.

Taz tries her hand at spot-welding. We pointed out that'd be two welds less on our bill. John pointed out he'd have to charge us for teaching Taz how to weld.  Tongue

Today's "What's in the yard" pic.
This beat up ol' '59 Caddy is one of a fleet of them at the workshops, all owned by the same guy & awaiting restoration.
