If you've only just tuned into this thread, this is a big moment for us.
This is Taz's dream car, but the only way we could ever afford to buy her one was to do it Johnny Cash style -one piece at a time. The Ebay bargain unfinished project we bought turned out to be a heavily crash-damaged basket case. Everyone we spoke to about it told us to cut our losses, scrap the beast & buy something else. Apart from not being able to afford to lose the purchase price or raise more money for another car, the more we heard that, the more determined we were to prove them wrong
-yeah, we know. Stupid.
So walking into JC's workshops & seeing our car looking like...well, a real car, was pretty momentous. Tears were shed -& not just mine
Look- a bonnet. And real fenders, (American car, see). Doors that open. And shut. Open, shut. Open. Shut. Openshutopenshutopen.
Cool!
John & Andy, the guy who's actually doing the work & who will definitely be on our Christmas card list, are quite happy to completely rebuild the car, but we just can't afford JC's prices. So they're doing the front end metalwork then we'll lug it home & do the rest ourselves, hopefully with lots of help from various friends. Taz has joined the Mopar Muscle Association forum & got to know some of the guys there. A few of the more local ones have volunteered to help replace the battered rear wings -"quarters", with our new panels. We're ordering a new floorpan from the States, which JCs will fit before we take the car back. The bonnet scoop's coming off & hopefully going to one of StrokerBlue's mates. The doors have already been replaced with a mint condition pair, courtesy of Dave 2 Lanes & we've got another boot, "trunk", lid from another MMA forum member. John at JCs strongly recommends fitting a front disc brake conversion so we'll start trawling the 'net for an aftermarket kit.
So much still to do, but the first huge step has been taken.
