I was thinking of nice phat 15x10 alloy rims with 295 tyres, but this would raise the wheel/tyre diameter loads as I can't find any 295x15 tyres in less than a 50 profile unless I want to pay over £200 EACH! (which i don't, or anything like it)
Smaller rims I hear you cry (either that or it's the voices again! Wink) but the same applies there, 14x10 rims are hard to find, most seem to stop at 7" wide unless you want to pay £200-£300 each which again I don't.
So I finally settled on getting 15x8 rims and 265 tyres. Found some "racelite" rims at a firm called Raceways of Donington (www.raceways.co.uk) drilled to most bolt patterns/pcd. I rang to order only to be told they were waiting on a casting slot and would have a couple of months wait, also there was a price increase. Bollox!
The very nice fella I spoke to said he had some 15x8's and 15x10's in stock in a 5 stud 4.75" pcd ( jag/ yanks) at the old price if they were any use to me. Now it just so happens that one of the axles i have has had new hubs made and yet to be drilled for wheel studs, so not wanting to wait I duly slapped them on the plastic and waited for them to arrive, which they did in record time (next day) unfortunately damaged  Angry  I phoned Raceways who happly offered a refund but not wanting to wait I got them to swap the 15x8's for 15x10's. So back to square one with the 295x50x15 tyres.

Have I got going round in circles off to an art form or what!!

Would 265 tyres be too narrow for a 10" wide rim?? I'm getting conflicting opinions on this one.

you got any m8s in a tyre shop? if so maybe ask them if they can chuck a 265 knackered tyre on and also listen to what they say? only an idea. as for the rims i think id have gone down the same rd as makny did, he got some morris weels and had them made bigger at the cost of £40 per side Smiley

My wheels are 14x8 and I have 265x50x14 tyres on them. I know they are expensive but they will last for years. Janie's dad's are over 10 years old if I remember rightly and Manky's are older than that, so £200 each is nothing really when you think how long they will last you. Just the initial outlay that's the problem.

Now then VB, no mates in a tyre shop I'm afraid and wide tyres are like rocking horse Pooh round my way so would probably struggle to find knacked ones!

Evening Taz, ended up getting a pair for £230 inc vat/delivery which I thought wasn't too bad but then the tyres will be about £140, like you say its a big outlay.

HM, 265/50's are a perfect fit on a 10" rim. If you look through the thread on my trike (pre paint) you'll see my wheels, which are 15x10, with a set of 265's on. I've since changed the old tyres to 275/60.
I got my tyres from Sinton, listed in the commercial services bit, and they do a fair range at a good price.
hope that helps.
