This is as far as I got with all wiring removed from light bar and new light bar trial fitted:- It needs extra holes drilled to allow me to hide speaker wires and also main fitting holes elongated to get it to line up.

w*rk to do:-

Get stainless light bar drilled and adjusted:- neighbour 2 doors up can do this as hes a metal w*rker from his house.
Get new taper bearings for headstock as one collapsed when I removed it (wonder is this anything to do with all the wheelies I'v been pulling lately, cause its done my fork seals again Roll Eyes)
Get new stearing lock stop bolts as they are a bigger size than last set as its a heavier front end

Rewire and reassemble, might get a set of new indicators as existing set are not the nicest looking and wires are marginally short anyway so if I have to rewire I may as well get a set I'm happier with.

So w*rk is under way, will have all parts on Monday then its a few evening w*rk till its ready for the road Grin

At last most of the bits are here and my back is improving so I actually got some w*rk done:-

Baddons Trike

New light bar final fitted and all wiring extended and re connected (and w*rking Wink)
New slabyolks in, forks fitted and front wheel fitted aith all its spacers, spedo drives etc.

Still have to do front breakes, refit handlebars, reroute throttle and foreward controls, refit tank and body and seats.
Almost forgot that pesky rear fog light wiring while I have good access to front end.

One or two small fiddly bits to sort yet but at least the trike is sitting on its own three wheels again.

I'm well pleased with the new wider front end Cool

As for a write up on the B & I trike, well what can I say, a new trike for just over 6k, built to my spec. It was ready for me to drive away the day I collected it and came with a towing frame so If going to a show I can two trike, leave it off and drive home.

The trikes are well put together, esp the Engineering. Only complaint is the wiring is not the tidiest, it all works and Tony (trike builder) can tell you on phone what every color wire does and goes from and too. Tony is so laid back its unreal, so if you are odering a trike from him just take compleation date with a couple of spoons of salt, Mine was 6-8 weeks late and it was a 6 month lead it when I ordered it.

The layout of the bars, pedels and seats really should be tried, I had to have bars brought back 2" nearer me, I am having foot controls moved away by 1 " and back rest added to give a better riding position on my 3 seater.

It should be noted that the 2 seater has the rider about 2-3 inches farther away from front, this means its a streatch to gear lever, Bars are further away and no back rest as standard. So make sure you get it built to suit you.

There are a great riding trike for a great price so check out his RARELY updated web site to see the trikes

http://www.vwtrikes.co.uk/index2.html

Dont leave a message on message board as he never checks it.

B & I are a one man band -Tony- who builds good value VW 1600 trikes. If its your thing check him out and make sure you tell him where u got his name as I am always thinging of my next mod Wink

Rim is a Yamaha 3 spoke marked 17xMT 5.50 DOT with only one disc on RHS, it does look like you could put a disc on both sides.

Tire is definatly 180mm wide give or take a mm or two ( I measured it)
Its a Continental 180 / 55 ZR 17.

I'd keep the Trike but loose the rider, the Little Irish Elf.  He spoils what otherwise would be a cracking machine.  Shocked Cheesy Shocked Grin

The new fatter tow frame to cope with the new tire. I actually bent the last one on a bumpy road so this one is considerable meatier. Also the last one was for the previous narrower tire. As such this new tire would not fit into it.

This is the hole in bottom of frame that the pin goes through. I came up with the design after seeing a picture of the BOOM tow frame in a 1" sq pic. I dont like the idea of towing by pulling the front wheel only as it puts a lot of pressure on the forks. This way I pull the frame of the trike and the front wheel sits on the two plates, just touching front one first so as forks are slightly compressed. This way the trikes suspension works to give trike a smooth ride with front fork doing little to no work.
