Manky Monkey Motors

Jay Jay and myself made an early start for this event as i had been informed by members of the Solent Renagades that spaces filled up quick in the show ground and the surrounding roads, we managed to get parked right on the seafront road opposite the show entrance, exibits were parked very close together and with the large crowds of people i spent a lot of time waiting for a clear view to take photo's, lots of the vehicles i had not seen before which made a change. There were many stalls round the outside of the ground ranging from cloths to motor parts and (diecast models i was told i have no room for any more) under the thumb or what. A band called Bad Medecine played good old Rock music set up high on a curtain side trailer for all to see. Our day started with rain on part of the journey, by the time we arrived the sun was just showing it's face ;D and for the rest of the day it was a real scorcher,while we sat beside the road having a cup of tea all you could hear was the rumble of v8 engines cruising by hoping to find that rare parking space, at the other end of Worthing prom a Bus Rally was being held and we kept on seeing all these Old buses pass by with their destinations from all over the country on the route signs. This is an event that is Free, and i would most certainly go to again, one other thing i forgot to mention is Alfie came with us what a Lady puller from our first steps into the event he drew the attention of the Ladys all wanting to stroke and talk to him, one Female asked if i minded her partner taking a photo of her with Alfie, he is becoming well known on the hotrod circuit.

It was a really nice event - very laid back and friendly.  I had not been to Worthing before and it looks an interesting place.  Nice and clean with a very long promenade.  The shops look nice and we were told by a couple we met that the diner on the front (just up the road from the Gardens where the event was held) is very welcoming and serves good food. They had eaten their lunch there even though there were plenty of food outlets for such a small site.  Rick and I agreed that it would be worth another trip on a weekday just to look around.

I think there had been events all weekend organised by the Lions (fireworks, motorbike ride in, charity stalls) and it was only as we were driving away, that we realised that there were stalls all along the (very long) promenade.  If only we had realised before we relinquished our parking space :'(.  Never mind, we would only have spent money we couldn't afford  - but it would have been fun looking.  As Rick has said, there was also a vintage bus rally at the other end and many people had come along just for that.  We met a very nice bus spotter!  I also got chatting to a local (Rick doesn't understand why all these men gravitate towards me - if only they weren't all OAPs or from the local home  ::)) and he was telling me that this event was the highlight of the year for him.

We also met up with many familiar faces.  I love to catch up, so that was nice.  As Rick said, many recognise us through Alfie and we seem to meet one couple (Rozzie and Jim) who also love English Bull Terriers, at every event we go to now.  They have a lovely Chevy Pick-up (1956 I think) which they had on the field.  We also saw Angie and Phil who many of you know, with their bright red Chrysler New Yorker, which is still for sale by the way, if anyone is interested and of course there was good representation from the Solent Renegades and the Victory Wheelers.

So a very good day, with lovely weather and a very good atmosphere.  Thoroughly recommend it, but get there early next year if you want to be able to park!
