Title: Have a break, have a KITT car.
Post by: Manky Monkey on April 03, 2008, 07:01:59 PM
I was at Valley Gas Speed Shop in Newbury, Berks this morning, collecting some box section for my Pop chassis. Always grab the chance to see what they've got in the workshop. Sat in the corner today was this- a faithful replica of KITT, (Knight Industries Two Thousand), automotive side kick of curly permed & perma tanned Michael Hasitoff in 80s crime series Knight Rider.
"A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist".
Like most TV cars, you either love it or hate it. Maybe it depends on whether it was your era or not. What was cool when you were a teenager tends to stick with you over the years. Yeah, I know the high tech Trans Am was silly & tacky, but still weird to see it lurking in the shadows in the corner of the workshop. A faithful copy, from the red lights set into the bonnet, to the gadget laden interior. I'd be really diasppointed if it didn't have a recording of KITT's voice or the rocket boost button didn't work.
Sorry about the fuzzy pics -probably some kind of photo jamming device.  ;)

The Green Hornet?! God, how old are you man!

Actually it was a 1966 Chrysler Imperial which was rebuilt by Dean Jefferies at a cost of $50,000
It had a built-in TV camera that saw 4 miles ahead; rockets front and rear; it could spread ice over the road; it had knock-out gas up front & a smoke machine in the rear. It also had brushes to sweep away tyre tracks.
The series only ran for one year from '66 to '67. The basic plot was that Britt Reid was given a newspaper empire on condition that he did good in the World. He was supposedly distantly related to the Lone Ranger, which inspired him to don a mask & fight injustice. In real life, The Lone Ranger & The Green Hornet were created by the same guy, so I guess they were sort of related.
Van Williams played Brett & his faithful martial arts chauffeur was a certain Mr Bruce Lee. His character was called Kato -hence Inspector Closeau's oriental man servant, (played by Bert Kwong), having the same name.

-Manky, sad TV anorak. :)

are you trying to tell use that knight rider was your ear MM ??  ;D ;D fair enough i was in primary school at that time .  ;) . i personally prefer the wraith car , it was really a dodge with a different body that was designed for the indy 500 or something but in the film it was driven by a young charlie shean or as they say in the film " an evil spirit that aint cool " . beware though it  was filmed in the 80s so theres a high cheese factore involved .

Its got to be the Silver Hornet for me!

In this film we get a glimpse of Clouseau's special car, the "Silver Hornet". The name of the car is a reference to the 'Green Hornet' character/TV show, much like Cato's name. It is obvious that the car is in fact a Citroën 2CV with some added features such as plastic wings on each side. The "Silver Hornet" is quite useless as it breaks down whenever it is used.

Dave Two Lanes is flogging his matt black '68 Charger at the moment. 18 grand.
Just spoken to him & he's got a potential buyer viewing it tomorrow, hence Taz's crying faces as she seriously covets that car.
Even worse than him parting with it -if it sells it won't be on our pitch at the Basingstoke Transport Festival next month.  :(

We went to Dave's today so I could stroke his car. I wish I could afford her and am gutted I can't. I hope she gets the loving home I would have given her.

The below link takes you to the write up on her.
