There are programs available that will recover most of your stuff I use R studio.

have a hard drive in a box and found its got alot of the older pictures and music
going to get another one and start saving all the files on it
i remember the days when i couldnt even open a mouse with a file
or is it the other way round

my advice would be to buy 2 , my mate had a 500 gig hard drive he used to keep all his stuff on but when his computer suffered a serious error it corrupted the data on the external drive as well as the internal one . also tyhey are very good at just breaking for the hell of it and when you hear it clicking you know its too late
