Hi guys, yet another problem i'm afraid Cry
Had a new tyre on the Virago xv535 a couple of months back. Since I got it back there's been an annoying clicking noise. I checked the obvious, nothing stuck in tyre, nothing touching as the wheel turns. It only seems to do it when I'm rolling with the clutch pulled in I thought perhaps that I couldn't hear it cos of the engine noise.
Today I had a eureka moment. I switched off the engine, put the bike in gear pulled the clutch lever in and rolled the bike forward the Bl@@^$£*y noise was there. It's not from the wheel after all. It doesn't to do it if the clutch lever is not pulled in.
To my mind this points to the clutch but I have never come across this before so I really have no idea. Any suggestions before I start to pull things apart or even take it to the bike shop and spend, probably, loads of the hard earned Sad Sad
Any suggestions/solutions will be gratefully received
Thanks
Regards

Thanks cabman, do you think you know what the problem is?

I've also now found that it does not click when the clutch is engaged, had a nice quiet little slow ride earlier on without my helmetn, around the car park outside of our garages (private land) only does it when the clutch lever is pulled in, makes me think that the clutch basket may be loose or something has 'come adrift' maybe. .

Thanks Chopper Charlie but it selects gear with no problem that I can feel so I'm hoping that the selector forks are ok, be very expensive if they are knacked Cry Cry

Good thinking BG, I'm sure it has but I'm going to double check tomorrow. Strange thing is it only does it when I pull the clutch in and in gear and rolling in traffic etc. There is no clicking when the clutch is engaged. Got me stumped, then again that's not difficult to do Embarrassed

I agree it seems like something has worked loosed in there. Bite the bullet and stop guessing and start wrenching to see the problem. Grin Grin Grin Grin

Well.....the tale ends here he said hopefully Grin

I got to thinking about Bobbi's comment...

Quote
Has it got enough oil in?

I checked the old oil level and it seemed to be where it should be in the oil window thingy.
(To do this I got Mrs.K to sit astride the beast outside the garage (The neighbours were quite shocked) then I got her to sit on the bike and hold it level while I checked the oil level.

I decided before I went ripping carefully removing panels I would change the oil and filter.
I then took the bike out for a run. Guess what....... No clicking noise. RESULT...I hope. I'll let you know after I've put a few more miles on the clock. I don't know why it's ok now, it was maybe just 'attention seeking'.

Thanks one and all for your comments/suggestions.

I'd have never thought about the oil particularly as it had a (supposedly) full service before I got it. Embarrassed

I've also never come across this type of thing before.
So...thanks again one and all.

Funnily enough no I didn't which surprised me. That flippin' clicking must have been from somewhere.
had a good ride out today, put a few miles on the clock and it was running really well, really pleased.
