Making a mockery of mechanical ingenuity

« on: August 14, 2011, 08:12:51 AM »

Morning folks,
Charlie here from Leeds,
After 25 years of bikes, and one massive failed knee reconstruction i decided i'd start on cars,,
Passed my test two years ago, bought a Trans am, then a Dodge pick-up, swapped the T/A for a 65 Olds which was awsome, then flogged the Olds and bought this 41 steel Plymouth Gasser....
Needs loads to get it on the road as it was a race car in Holland, but i'm on it and should have it done for Whitby Kustom show in November....
I'm always on the look out for small block Chevy stuff

Just opened the new issue of Custom Car magazine & found a piccie of "Rat Arsed" at the Hotrods & Hills show in the Lake District. It's an Oldsmobile 98.

Aye, the Olds has been all over the country in the last year, absolute monster of a car... 425ci (7litre) big block, with a reputed 375bhp, it seemed bombproof until the bloke i sold it to blew it up.
The missus cried when it went

Cheers Ron, been a pain in the arse up to press,,
The 305 that was in it had flattened two big ends cos it was over carburrated, i'm just on with dropping another 8 in, but as you know, this s**t don't just fall into place...

Onward and upwards, our lass is loving the smell of oil though,,,, and the s**tty moods when i get in at 11pm

Got the knocking 305 out last night, ready to put the new(ish) one in, only to find the parts supplier had given me the wrong gasket for the sump.. As i didn't fancy laying on my back to fit the sump at a later date, i had to leave it on the stand...
I rattled the clutch and flywheel off, did a bit of cleaning, did a bit of swearing, then buggered off home in a mood cos i can't get to the car til Sunday now,,, Supped a case of Budweisser, and stumbled off to bed mumbling nonsense about yank parts suppliers..

Swap ya for a Nissan,,, no thanks

That's a big ol' chunk o' car ain't it.
My missus, Tazet's got a 383 Dodge charger. Got the motor that came with the car -in a million pieces, plus one of the old engines from Pinball Wizard. Both condition unknown. That's the next project after my truck.

Bought me some posh timing gear,, does away with unreliable chains, and sound like a blower cos the gears are straight cut

Gonna have a week with the braking system, then it just needs wiring for the test, then it's logbook time...
I did ultimately want it done for Whitby Kustom show, but things never run to plan,, it just means there'll be a fresh car on the scene for the beginning of next season
