Spotted in our back garden by Taz a couple of days ago. We usually get the black & white ones in our garden & our neighbours get the green 'uns. The black n whites feed on the peanut feeders we have, while the greens sit on the lawn & eat worms -which is why we don't normally see them, (we haven't got a very good quality lawn). We've had to cut down the amount of food we put out though cos it was attracting hordes of Jackdaws. So we've lost the b/w ones & gained the greens. This is a mother feeding her offspring.

I wouldn't be without my cats as I love them dearly, but I know they are the reason we don't get much in our garden - I do envy you! Of course it helps that you're on the edge of open fields too.

The jackdaws sit in the oak trees at the bottom of the garden & wait for us to put bird food out, then descend in a great, black, flapping mass, like a swarm of locusts & hoover up every scrap of food. I love wildlife but I'd happily wring their necks if I could catch 'em. So we don't get as many visitors as we used to. Even the less exotic ones can be very characterful though. We have several female blackbirds that come to the back door to be fed every day & a couple of hedgehogs each evening -we used to get 4 or 5, but I fear some have met an early demise on the busy road at the front of the house. Even the robins & starlings have very definite characters. It's just nice to have animals feel safe enough to visit our garden. Mind you, they all disappear when the local sparrowhawk drops in.

We had a hedgehog in the garden the other day but I don't think he was very well - he looked a bit thin and seemed to be breathing fast, and after checking online it was confirmed that any hedgehog seen in the daytime is probably in need of help. Unfortunately by the time I went back outside he'd disappeared.

Ours usually show up around 9.0.clock, but we had one that regularly showed at 7.30 -I think he was just getting a head start on the food.

The neighbour's black cat mooches around our garden, but isn't interested in birds -I think it's realised there's no chance of catching 'em. Rabbits beware though!
