I posted a query a little while back about redrilling some wheels and the general concensus was I'd be better off getting a set of adaptors made. I'm going to try and find some 25-30mm aluminium plate and the biggest hole saw I can lay my hands on (say 152mm). If I mark and measure one set of holes on a 4" PCD to take the Reliant studs and a second set on 130mm PCD tapped out to take the VW wheel bolts.
What can I use to counterbore the inner holes in order to recess the nuts on the Reliant studs if I haven't got access to a proper counterbore drill?

hire a rotobore is my guess,or sharpen a drill bitt into a flat cutting edge with a small point in the centre and drill a small pilot hole first then drill the counter bore then drill through with the correct clearance hole.

yep totaly agree with spanners..........just did a quick search for commercialy available adaptors and just as i thought, they either use studs & fit steel inserts for wheel bolt threads............take care!!!

Fully agree with the others...don't thread ally! You need summat like this...... with clearance holes on the front for the reliant nuts and holes drilled in the back to accept the vw stud. If you drill the reliant pcd accurately and exactly to the size of the stud, you won`t need to counter bore and could use lock nuts to hold the adapter to the hub.

Hi! I am also searching for suitable adaptors for my project and found 4/100 to 4/130 adaptors here http://www.carnoisseurdirect.com/vw-to-vw-classic-beetle-7173-c.asp Still searching for a set that will work for me, if anyone can help then please do looking to fit US made wheels to reliant axle so I need to convert to one of the following PCD's: 5/114.3 (4.5"), 5/121 (4.75"), 5/127 (5").

Why not just re-drill the wheels to suit your required PCD? its certainly possible with alloy wheels, as I have done so a few times when using Ford alloys on Reliant axles. Morrag

Just to be difficult I'm planning steel wheels. Found these a few minutes ago http://www.gto-ro.com/044to5PCD.htm could be the answer? Needs more investigating.
