Leaving it and not using it wont be a problem, personally i would wire it up, it can be difficult acknowledging people when hanging on to handlebars.

Another stupid Q!. One of the switches already mentioned appears to be the "passing light " switch.I presume the lights work for the length of time it is depressed. So..why would I use this switch,I dont flash/put my lights on when passing vehicles when driving my car,and Ive never seen a bike flash its lights anyway. Is this some sort of gimmick,or maybe a necessity? If I remove the switch and wiring to it(I could do with thinning out the amount of wires Im trying to get thro' the bars)might I have probs with MSVA,possibly with a "fitted must work" rule?
   Thanks

The switch is designed to be a 'visual horn', to let folk know you're there when they haven't seen you. An example might be when they're about to pull out in front of you, are looking at you but haven't actually seen you.
Another example is when you're overtaking someone and they start to move over, the flashing of the headlight could be the only thing that lets them realise you're there.

Personal view from experience, I'd keep it on there................ to me its close to a necessity, not a gimmick. Ride safe!  Wink

I thought it was a legal requirement on all new vehicles, and has been for a long time.
